Foundational: the Body

what is our body made of?

(From Dust):

The surpising, but true answer to this question is that we can’t fathom this. Sure, we can ascribe names to chemical compounds and various proteins that make up our flesh. Yet, we do not know in the slightest where these elements come from except from the ultimate design of God. We may be able to say how certain processes work; for example, how touch receptors send signals to the brain via electrochemical prcocesses. However, how this works in real time and how all of our bodily and conscious processes are sustained in a unifying way is a different story. In essence, our bodies are too complex to fully understand. Therefore, it is best to be content with the description that Scripture gives to us: that we are made from the dust and came into being through the breath of God. It is God who has created us, and not we ourselves.

How are we to be "Fit?"

Life as Earthen Vessels:

We are physical, but we are not physical only. Concerning ourselves with the spiritual aspect of our being brings the physical body to its completeness. We cannot be well externally if we are not well internally just as we cannot be successful unless we have first established what our definition of success is. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were told by God to be fruitful and multiply, and to fill and subdue the Earth. Considering such tasks, which take many forms, our bodies must be fit for the job. In light of this, let us be earthen vessels filled with the gold of the gospel!

Why do our bodies fail us?

(To Dust):

No matter what manner we live our lives, our bodies eventually fail to sustain us. You can prioritize nutrition, exercise regularly, and have access to the highest standards of medical care. Still, sooner or later, our bodies will begin to shut down. Why is this though? Ultimately, it comes back to when God told Adam and Eve that if they ate the fruit, they would surely die. However, our hope is in our Lord Jesus Christ, who is risen and ascended. Surely, because of this, death has lost its sting.
