Fighting the Elements

With the official 2021 winter solstice on the horizon, there is much to consider. For children, they may be focused on all the schoolwork they have to get done before Christmas break. For college students, the focus is shifted to final exams. For adults in the workforce, there are a whole host of elements to battle;  both things that are geneeral and specific to the times in which we live. Not only are we battling against the elements that come with winter and the elements that come with this political climate, but the elements that come from the spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). While the elements together may form a frigid winter, we are cloaked with all the warmth we need and more in Christ (Ephesians 3:20-21).

“WHILE THE ELEMENTS TOGETHER MAY FORM A FRIGID WINTER, WE ARE CLOAKED WITH ALL THE WARMTH WE NEED AND MORE IN CHRIST.”

Just as there are periodic trends with the Periodic Table of the Elements, so too are there certain trends in life. Going from left to right, there is an increase in the energy needed to remove an electron from a given element. These values are the highest among a period among the rightmost elements, which are called the noble gases. The noble gases represent points of stability; these elements neither want to gain or lose electrons. Let this serve as a lesson; everybody is trying to reach some sort of stability. For Christians, our stability must be found in God and in the consistency of His Word through all things (Isaiah 40:8).

When life seems difficult beyond measure and you are surrounded by all of the elements, remember the rock on which you stand (Luke 11:23). Don’t listen to your circumstances, but what God says about your circumstances. He will preserve the Believers in His Word and He tells us to be anxious for nothing (Romans 8:28). Put on the full armor of God; from the waistbelt of truth to sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:11-18). May your hope be full as we look on to Christmastime; the time when we celebrate the wondrous Incarnation of the very Son of God.
