With the celebration of the birth of Christ next week, we ought to explore what we believe about the King of Kings, and why we believe what we do. These are some affirmations that ground our beliefs and keep us from false teaching:
“WITH THE CELEBRATION OF THE BIRTH OF CHRIST NEXT WEEK, WE OOUGHT TO EXPLORE WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT THE KING OF KINGS, AND WHY WE BELIEVE WHAT WE DO.”
1. Jesus is God – Fully God and Fully Man [John 1:1, and Colossians 2:9, and John 10:30]
2. Jesus is the Messiah [Isaiah 9:6, and Zechariah 12:10, and Daniel 9:24].
3. Jesus lived the perfect life and fulfilled all of the Law [1 Peter 2:22, and 2 Corinthians 5:21]
4. Jesus is Savior [Luke 2:10-11, and Matthew 1:21, and John 3:16]
5. Jesus is Risen [Matthew 28:6, and Romans 7:4, and Revelation 1:5]
6. Jesus is acsended and seated at the right hand of the Father [Hebrews 12:2, and Luke 1:32-33].
7. Jesus is building His Church [Ephesians 2:19-22]
Of course, there will be people that dispute such affirmations. However, there is no thwarting the purity of the Gospel; it stands true forever. Some say Jesus is a creation, but the truth is that He is Creator. Some say Jesus was simply a good teacher, but the truth is that He is the One who gave us our morals and establishes what good teaching is. We don’t believe what we do simply because it sounds good; we believe what we do because it is truth upheld by the incorruptible Scriptures; Jesus is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).
The song “Mary, Did You Know?” captures the beauty of the birth of God in the flesh:
Mary, did you know
That your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
That your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
That your Baby Boy is Heaven’s perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you’re holding is the great “I AM.”
This is the One whose birth we celebrate this Christmas. Jesus is our Savior and our sustainer of peace. O come, let us adore Him.
